We at the Church of England Birmingham Education team provide services and support - including courses, conferences, specialist advice and a range of targeted support, including:
For Senior Leaders:
At least one pastoral visit each year from a team member; including ensuring Headteachers understand the support and resources available from CofE Birmingham to themselves, their staff and governors. It provides Headteachers with an opportunity to raise any professional matters they wish to discuss.
In addition:
- Regular e-mailed briefing from DRB with national updates on all aspects of Ofsted and DfE guidance
- Regular e-mailed briefing from the Education team, updating schools on CofE Birmingham matters
- Advice and support on structural change (eg becoming an Academy or part of a Multi-Academy Trust)
- Support in managing difficult conversations
- A mentor (usually an experienced Church School headteacher) for new headteachers/headteachers new to Church Schools
- Mini-retreats online for senior leaders
- Access to our New Headteacher Programme
- Access to bespoke services required of the core Education team, either by telephone, e-mail or a diarised visit on a mutually agreed date as outlined below
- Support for recruitment of senior staff
- Support for secondments and school leadership opportunities

- For SIAMS preparation and follow-up
- For professional development and curriculum expertise of RE Co-ordinators and Collective Worship Leaders
- For developing high-quality Collective Worship
- For developing the distinctive nature/ethos of your Church school
- Provision of 4 Grove Booklets on education in Church school-related matters
Church/Church School Partnership
- Developing working relationships with local churches and clergy
- Professional advice and support for senior leaders, clergy and governors of Church of England schools, when requested
- Pastoral care and support of clergy and senior leaders
- Advice and support in managing difficult situations (ie parents and external bodies)
Admissions and Appeals
- Support and advice
- Running an appeals service
Buildings and land-related issues
- Working towards Net Zero targets (particularly for VA schools)
Managing the School Condition allocation of funds for Academy and VA schools
School Governors
- Support for school governance, including appointments and training, briefings and updates
- Support with all Headteacher appointments
- Support with senior leader appointments, by request
Our Schools Senior Leadership Conference held annually on the first Friday in March provides an enjoyable and stimulating opportunity for senior leaders to gather, network and listen to a number of relevant keynote speakers.
